Support Coordination and Plan Management

Support Coordination is designed to help NDIS participants understand and implement their NDIS plan, connect with the right service providers, and make the best use of their funded supports. The role of a support coordinator is to ensure that participants can navigate the NDIS system and manage their services and supports effectively. There are three levels of support coordination:

  • Support Connection
  • Coordination of Supports
  • Specialist Support Coordination

Plan Management

Plan Management is a financial service that assists NDIS participants in managing the financial aspects of their NDIS funding. A plan manager is responsible for processing payments, keeping track of the participant’s budget, and helping them understand how much funding is available for their services. There are three ways NDIS plans can be managed:

Agency-Managed:

    • The NDIS handles all payments to service providers.
    • Participants must use only NDIS-registered providers.

      Self-Managed:

      • Participants manage their own funds, paying providers directly, and claim reimbursements from the NDIS.
      • Offers the most flexibility, as participants can choose providers who are not NDIS-registered.

        Plan-Managed:

        • The NDIS funds a plan manager to handle financial administration on behalf of the participant.
        • The plan manager is responsible for paying providers, processing invoices, and tracking the participant’s budget.
        • Plan-managed participants have the flexibility to choose both NDIS-registered and non-registered providers.
