Build the everyday skills that unlock independence. From cooking and budgeting to catching public transport and making friends, we help you learn to do more for yourself, at your pace, so you rely on support less over time.

NDIS daily living and life skills development is training that helps you build the everyday skills to live more independently, such as cooking, budgeting, using public transport and social skills. Unlike everyday support that does tasks for you, this teaches you to do them yourself. It is funded in Capacity Building under Improved Daily Living.
Trusted by 50+ teams to empower people across Melbourne and Victoria

Daily living and life skills development is about building capacity, not doing things for you. Our skills trainers work alongside you to learn and practise everyday tasks, so you gain confidence and independence, and gradually need less paid support over time.
It is funded in your Capacity Building budget under Improved Daily Living, and complements our self-care, community participation and SIL services. Because it is Capacity Building, it does not reduce your Core supports.
Talk to Our Melbourne TeamWe tailor skill-building to your goals. Here are some of the areas we help you grow.
Plan, shop for and cook healthy meals, and manage a safe, tidy kitchen.
Manage money, pay bills, use a bank card and shop within a budget with confidence.
Learn to plan trips, use buses and trains, and travel safely and independently.
Build steady hygiene, grooming and daily routines that support health and wellbeing.
Write a list, navigate the shops, compare prices and manage everyday errands.
Grow confidence to express yourself, make phone calls and handle appointments.
Use a phone, email and apps for staying connected, safety and daily tasks.
Manage a calendar, keep appointments and organise your week with less stress.
Build friendships, join groups and grow the confidence to connect with others.
These two supports sound similar but work differently. One does the task with you, the other teaches you to do it yourself. Many participants use both.
A skills trainer helps you learn and practise a task so you can do it yourself over time. For example, learning to cook, budget or catch the bus. The goal is more independence and less paid support.
A support worker does the task with or for you as an ongoing support. For example, cleaning your home or helping you shower. The goal is safe, reliable daily support.
Skill development must be reasonable and necessary and linked to your goals. Here is the quick guide.
Skill development is funded from Capacity Building under Improved Daily Living, so it does not reduce your Core supports.
| Support | Price limit / hour |

It is training that helps you build the everyday skills to live more independently, such as cooking, budgeting, using public transport, communication and social skills. Rather than doing tasks for you, a skills trainer helps you learn to do them yourself, so you gain confidence and rely on paid support less over time.
Daily living and life skills development is funded from your Capacity Building budget, under Improved Daily Living. Because it is Capacity Building, it is funded on top of your Core supports and does not reduce your everyday support budget.
We tailor skill-building to your goals. Common areas include cooking and meal preparation, budgeting and managing money, using public transport, personal routines and hygiene, shopping and errands, communication, using technology, time management and organisation, and social skills.
Improved Daily Living teaches you to do a task yourself, and is time-limited capacity building. Assistance with Daily Life is an ongoing Core support where a worker does the task with or for you. In short, one builds skills and the other provides day-to-day help. Many participants use both.
Under the NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27 (from 1 July 2026), skill development and training including public transport is $73.58 per hour (National), and specialised skills development, individual social skills development and training for carers and parents are $83.87 per hour. If funded in your plan there is usually no out-of-pocket cost.
Both. You can have one-on-one skill development for focused, personal goals, or take part in group programs where you learn alongside others and build social confidence at the same time. We help you choose what suits your goals and preferences.
It is for NDIS participants of any age who want to build skills and independence, whether that is a young person preparing to live more independently, or an adult learning to manage money, travel or a home. It is always tailored to your goals and current abilities.
Yes. Training for carers and parents is funded when it helps them support your goals and build your independence. It gives the people around you consistent, effective strategies, so your skill-building continues between sessions.
At your planning meeting or plan review, describe the skills you want to build and the independence you are working towards, ideally with a therapist letter as evidence. Ask for Improved Daily Living in your Capacity Building budget. We can help you prepare for that conversation.
